Team BioSensei Michael Vazquez began full contact training with the World Oyama Karate Organization in upstate New York in 1989. When Sensei Michael moved to South Carolina, there were no nearby Oyama schools, so he switched to another full contact style and opened his first dojo. The school was successful, but something was missing; he never lost his desire to train with Oyama Karate. In 2002, Sensei Michael closed his dojo and turned in his black belt so he could return to Oyama Karate. He started traveling monthly to the World Oyama Karate Organization’s headquarters in Birmingham Alabama. There he trained directly with the World Oyama founder, Saiko Shihan Yasuhiko Oyama, learning his exciting and dynamic teaching methods. Sensei Michael realized his 14 year dream when he received his black belt from Saiko Shihan. Sensei Michael is currently the Oyama Karate North Carolina Branch Chief and is the leading authority on World Oyama Karate in the Carolinas. Although he is an accomplished full contact fighter, he is most proud of his growing reputation as a teacher.
